Denise is originally from Springfield, Illinois where she grew up in a farming family. “We always had horses around,” she said and she was able to start trail riding at the age of 5 with her grandfather. From there she soon learned to drive singles and pairs and began showing mules as well as horses in Western and Halter classes in small county shows. Denise has a B.S. in Equine Business Administration from UofL and entered the Saddlebred world when she became Marilyn MacFarlane of Walnut Way Farm’s Administrative Assistant. Working not only in the office but also picking up what she could around the barn, Denise soon acquired a great knowledge of the industry. She began taking lessons with Betsy and showed Saddle Seat and Western under her guidance and won a Reserve KASPHA High Point Award during the course of her show career. When Betsy branched out on her own and established her own business, Denise came on as Betsy’s Office Manager and has been a part of LEC ever since. She also has a daughter, Jessica, who shares her love of horses.
